Fall Trend 2010: Zoya Cheryl

The colour brown can sometimes get a bad rap for being "boring". Zoya's Cheryl ($7 USD) from the Fall Wicked collection is anything but! I instantly fell in love with this rich, jeweled, smokey brown. It's a shade I definitely don't have in my nail polish stash. I love the mix of brown, copper and gold shimmer. It's one of the decadent shades just perfect for Fall!

Taken the morning after application. Without the flash, the shade is deeper and more rich.

Have you tried Zoya Cheryl? Love it? Hate it? Want it?

Fall Trend 2010: Zoya Kelly

Meet the new black. Kelly is a deep grey shade with undertones of purple and blue. Sometimes a straight black shade can seem boring and and a little harsh against some skin tones. If you're in a gothic mood but don't want to go halloween-black, Kelly is a nice alternative. Although, I didn't love it or hate it against my skin tone. It was just alright for me. However, on fair-skinned beauties it would be lovely!

Taken on Day 3 with some minor chipping. This was taken with flash. Without flash it's a lot darker.

Have you tried Zoya Kelly from the Fall Wonderful collection? Love it? Hate it? Want it?

Fall Trend 2010: Zoya Shawn & Cola

Zoya is one nail brand that I can count on to create eye-catching, edgy and unique colours. Wonderful and Wicked from the Fall collection feature 6 creams and 6 sparkling shades. Before I dish about all the lovely colours, lets talk about the application.

Zoya Shawn taken on Day 2 in the am and already chipping :(

Is it me or did the brush get smaller? Getting it to look neat around the cuticle never seemed troublesome before. I'm not sure if the formulation has changed since the summer collection but the application was such a mess. It didn't apply streaky but the formula looked more watery than past nail polishes. Maybe a bad batch? What surprised me even more was that it started to chip by the 2nd day. I guess Joe Fresh nail polishes have set the bar!

As popular as the green nail trend has been, I haven't found one that I've really loved on myself. When I saw Shawn in the bottle, I was hopeful that this mossy green would be the one. When I first applied it, I was kind of on the fence but for the most part liking it. Funny enough, the next day when I woke up the first thing I looked at was my nails and I hated it. I sat with it for a bit but by the afternoon had to remove it. It's a lovely shade of green but it doesn't belong on my finger tips. I think it just brings out too much of the yellow in my skin.

Zoya Cola taken on the 1st day

Zoya Cola is definitely more up my alley. It's a new twist on a classic brown making it more terracotta much like the pretty autumn leaves! I love this much better against my skin tone. The application was still a bit of a mess though and chipped a wee bit by the end of the first day.

Stay tuned for more reviews from the Zoya Fall collection! Have you tried Shawn or Cola? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Want 'em?

Zoya nail polishes retail for $7 USD and $36 USD for the 6 samplers.

Beauty Review: Zoya Nail Polish Sparkle Collection

Who needs fireworks this weekend when you've got some sparkle on your nails! Kick it up a notch this summer with Zoya's Sparkle collection. If you've never been a fan of glitter, Sparkle may just change your mind!

Zoya Charla: I was immediately intrigued by this "tropical blue sparkling metallic", but I wasn't so sure I wanted that much glitter on my fingers. So, I tested it out on my toes and I love! I just love the way it glimmers and shimmers in the light. The look is less glitter and more shimmer.

Zoya Mimi: This fab sparkling metallic royal purple is one shade I was brave enough to wear on my nails because of it's deep hue. I tend to choose this shade during the fall/winter season so I was surprised to see it as summer shade. The sparkling effect makes it wearable for the summer months.

Zoya Ivanka: I know green is a big trend right now but I just can't seem to get on board. This is described as "mermaid green sparkling metallic" but it just reminds me of grass - with sparkle. It really is pretty in the bottle, but I just don't love it on me.

Zoya Gilda: One of my fave shades from Sparkle! This "fashion pink sparkling metallic" is just a bunch of girly fun. If you love pinks you'll love this one!

Zoya Alegra: I thought this fuchsia pink would be shocking but it's actually sophisticated and would look pretty chic with a LBD. Besides the high shimmer, it's another classic shade that would look gorgeous on all skin tones.

Zoya Nidhi: The collection wouldn't be complete without a red, a rich sparkling metallic red. Wear the cream version for day and heat it up at night with this shimmering shade!

I've never been a fan of glitter but as I mentioned before it's definitely more shimmer and less glitter. I was expecting to find hard glittery flecks in it but instead the texture is mico-fine sparkles which I love. The effect is just so pretty and sparkly! The only negative? When you remove the polish the sparkles get all over your skin but washes off with water. Otherwise, if you consider nail polish an accessory then you'll definitely want the Sparkle collection!

Beauty Review: Zoya Nail Polish Flash Collection

I anticipate nail polish launches just as much as makeup launches. I especially get giddy about Zoya's seasonal collections because they are always a mix of fun, edge, and dazzle. I don't think there has been one collection I've been underwhelmed by and Zoya's Flash collection has me swooning.

The Flash collection is a set of bright cream polishes just in time for the summer heat. Full colour with no streaks!

Zoya Jolene:  I have found THE pink for me! Described as a summery, bold girly pink it looks fantastic against tanned skin. It's actually a lot brighter in person but not so shocking like a neon pink. My tips have received many compliments with this lovely pink!

Zoya Dana: An All-American rose cream, this rosy-pink is also gorgeous and a few shades deeper than Jolene. This is one shade that will look beautiful on all skin tones. A classic shade.

Zoya Perrie: A beautiful, soft glossy lavender. I really think this is a pretty lavender but doesn't really work for my skin tone. My skin looks a bit more sallow with this hue, but would be fabulous on my fair-skinned beauties!

Zoya Robyn: Loving this "perfect turquoise cream"! It reminds me of the aqua blue ocean on a far away island I've never been to...but I digress. I adore brights on my finger tips but if it's too much for you, wear it on your toes!

Zoya Jancyn: This not neon yet bold tangerine shade is a pretty juicy looking colour. I like it, but I think I will love it when my skin is a toasty bronze.

Zoya Maura: An electric crimson red, the ultimate summer red. You can't go wrong with red. There is a shade of red for every time of the year! In person, this red has more cherry and less orange which I love.

Overall, I was really impressed with the collection. Some cream polishes can be streaky but Zoya's formula is anything but. It applies smooth and only takes 2 coats to fully cover. I also find cream polishes to be a bit boring at times but these shades are daring, fun, and will get those nails noticed! Stay tuned for my review of Zoya Sparkle collection!

Spring Preview Review: Zoya Reverie Lana Nail Polish

Polish hue of the day? Zoya Reverie in Lana!

Lana, rich metallic red, looks more orange-red in this picture but in reality is more red than orange. This shade will look striking on fair-skinned beauties and look sexy on warmer or tanned skin tones. It's a gorgeous colour perfect for both the toes and fingers.

Spring Preview Review: Zoya Reverie Reece Nail Polish

Zoya Reverie in Reece

These days, I don't mind doing my own polish job when I have fun colours to chose from. Right now, I am obsessed with Zoya's Reverie collection. Pretty hue of the day? Reverie in Reece!

I originally thought Lana was my next fave after Adina, but I was inspired by CARGO's new Spring blush Amalfi (review to come!) and fell in love with Reece, a gilded rose metallic. Again, my swatch does not do it justice - it's actually a lot deeper. It reminds me of Estee Lauder's Signature Hydra Lustre Lipstick in Rich Berry, which is a sheer but rich raspberry.

Reece is Spring in a bottle. Pretty on the tips and toes!

Spring Preview Review: Zoya Reverie Adina Nail Polish

My dark moody polish hues of fall and winter have been pushed aside to make room for my new fun spring colours! I'm always excited when Zoya announces a new collection - you'll be sure to fall in love with a new shade that you'll wear over and over. Zoya Reverie collection is my favourite Spring collection so far (thanks for sending!).

Zoya Reverie in Adina

The metallic finish is edgier than its cream finish sister. The spring collections I've seen so far are a bore compared to Reverie. Zoya has taken a simple red or pink and added a metallic finish that kicks it up a notch creating a really unique shade.

I love the whole collection but my favourite (possibly of all time!) has to be Adina. Making it a duo-chrome shade was brilliant because it is a really unique colour - one I've never seen or tried at least. My swatch really doesn't do Adina justice but you can see the different layers of violet, blue, green and sometimes gold in there. This is one shade I'll probably be wearing out in the months to come!

On a side note - my Zoya Armour Top Coat was getting a little thick and hard to apply. I forgot I had my Zoya Renew Polish Rejuvenator stashed away and unopened. I added a few drops of this baby and my top coat was golden! You can add this to any old polish and make them new again. How sweet is that?

Zoya Spring 2010 Reverie collection is available January 2010. Sampler set retails for $36 USD and sold separately $7 USD.

Will be posting more swatches soon - stay tuned!

Beauty Review: Zoya Hot Lips Glossy Lip Balm

Zoya is famously known for their wide selection of nail polishes and we at Makeup Junkie are huge fans! Now I've fallen for Zoya's Hot Lips Glossy Lip Balms and all I can say is that they are the bomb! There are 50 different shades to choose from and they come in these cute short fat tubes.

The only thing I didn’t like about the packaging was the round applicator at the end of the tube. I would have preferred something a little more angled. If you want even coverage then I would recommend using a lip brush.

The colors I tried them in were Resolution (raspberry red), Wink (light copper), and Paparazzi (shimmery nude) and all I can say is that I was very pleased with them. The coverage is pretty sheer but you can build it up by layering and applying more. I have pretty dry lips but once I applied this on, right away they became moisturized. The gloss is long lasting and throughout the day I found my lips to be more soft and hydrated. The gloss is also slightly sticky but not so sticky that it feels like gunk on your lips. These are worth checking out and stocking up on!

Have you tried these uber cute glossies? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Makeup Junkie wants to know!

Zoya Hot Lips Glossy Lip Balm retails for $6 USD.

Beauty Feature: Oh-la-la Summer Nails

Yes, I know summer is almost over but that doesn't mean I can't gush over my top picks for summer nails. My nails were bright and sunny thanks to these hot shades from Zoya and OPI!

1. OPI South Beach Collection in Party in My Cabana: This gorgeous creamy pink is such a pretty colour on fingers and toes. Such a flirty colour it couldn't help but get compliments all the time!
2. Zoya La-Di-Da Collection in Pippa: Sunny banana yellow! Love! Rocked this on tips and toes.
3. Zoya La-Di-Da Collection in Ali: Neon pink is so me! Loved how opaque this colour was, but the finish dried almost like a matte polish. Once I swiped on a top coat it was good to go. Didn't like it so much on my toes - it lost its shine once my toes were in sand. It was also hard to get dirt off the colour.
4. OPI South Beach Collection in Conga-line-Coral: Metallic coral rose - it's like a sunset on your fingers and toes!
5. Zoya La-Di-Da Collection in Paz: I'm so a kid of the 80's because I gravitate to bright neons! Hot neon orange shade for the summer especially on tanned skin!
6. Zoya La-Di-Da Collection in America: This sophisticated bright orange red perfect for those summer cocktail events.

Zoya Color Lock System (Complete Kit $48 USD): Us gals just don't have time to touch up our nail colour which is why Zoya came out with this fabulous 5 step Color Lock System! Color Lock- Step 1: Big Flipper Bottle filled with Remove + Three in One. This is the perfect remover, nail cleaner, and nail prep in a mess-free flip container. My favourite part - just twist the cap and press down to get the remover. It also won't dry out your nails. Color Lock- Step 2: Zoya Anchor will keep your polish on, preventing chipping and peeling while strengthening the nail with complex protein chains. Got ridgy, uneven nails? Color Lock- Step 2: Zoya Get Even smooths out the natural nail surface with its bonding fibers preventing nail flaking and maximizing the endurance of your colour. After you have applied your favourite Zoya polish, lock the colour in with Zoya Armor Topcoat (Step 4). UV topcoat keeps polish shiny, flexible, and prevents yellowing. Color Lock- Step 5: Zoya Hurry Up Speed Dry Drops is a dream! If you're like me, then you don't have the patience to wait for your polish to dry. With these dry drops, your polish is dry to the touch within seconds, but do be warned - the polish is still a bit tacky so move with care! Apply this every 2 days to maintain shine and colour for up to 2 weeks! The Cemillia Oil can also be massaged into the cuticle for nourishment. Zoya has come out with a genius way for you to bring old, thickening polishes back to life with Renew Polish Rejuvenator! So save those old colours, basecoats and topcoats!

Zoya Twist Spring Sampler Collection ($36 USD): Twist is a fun collection of 6 shades ranging from trendy to girly. With the Color Lock System, these polishes remained chip-free for 10 days! Shades from top to bottom: Harley (soft shimmering grey), Jo (shimmering silver-blue metallic), Malia (violet cream), Barbie (shimmering soft pink), Cassi (shimmering soft peach), and Moxie (vibrant red plum cream). I absolutely loved all the shades but my favourite was Moxie. It looked gorgeous against my skin tone. All 6 shades are wearable on your tips and your toes. Afraid to wear colourful makeup? I always say why not go bright or trendy on your nails??
