Makeup 101: The 5 Minute Face

Mornings are harsh (and yet I'm up after midnight writing this!). There's just not enough time in the day to do everything I want to accomplish. My day starts in the wee morning and it ends in the wee morning. You'd think spending half the morning in a drowsy state and getting sick would teach me a lesson.

Being able to put makeup on or style my hair is a luxury these days with two little ones. Applying my makeup in a matter of minutes is a must! Here are the products I currently use on a daily to look fresh faced and somewhat presentable in 5 minutes!

Top Row:

Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector ($19.99 CAD): You'd have to be hiding under a rock if you haven't heard about the latest craze in beauty. BB Creams, a beauty secret from Asia, is now hitting North America. What is a BB cream and why all the buzz? BB creams is an all-in-one skin perfecting product that  combines skincare with makeup. Some are even made to improve acne overtime.

I first learned of it when my brother's girlfriend from Korea was visiting us. She said she loved because it improved the overall appearance of her skin and lightened her skin too. Making my skin lighter really didn't appeal to me so I brushed it off not really thinking it would make its way here.

Brands like Garnier have included all the skin nourishing properties minus the skin lightening ingredients. I've heard Marcelle's is really good and I tested Estee Lauder's version. I found it to be drying for my skin and the shade was too light. I've been testing out Garnier's for a few weeks now and so far I'm liking it. Here's what I like about it: evens out my skin tone, diffuses my wrinkles and fine lines, makes my skin look radiant, and is ultra moisturizing. It also has sun protection. It's a cinch to put on especially if you're in a hurry!

The shade I received is medium-dark. It seems to match me pretty well, but it has a slight pink undertone. After it sets, it just looks like my skin. The coverage is like that of a tinted moisturizer. I'm not really sure what sets it apart from some TM's that also offer anti-aging ingredients, SPF, and coverage. Possibly BB creams offer higher anti-aging ingredients? All in all, I really love how my skin looks after. I get decent coverage in a matter of seconds. Available January 2012.

Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener ($18 USD): A staple! An eye brightener and concealer all in one. Read my full review here

Anastasia Brow Duality ($23 USD): A multi-purpose highlighter for brows, eyes, cheekbones, and even the top of your lips! I like to wear this in the inner corner for a brightening effect. Read my full review here

Shu Uemura Eye Lash Curler ($26 CAD): I never go a day without this! This lash curler gives my lashes the most perfect curl.

L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Waterproof Mascara ($12 CAD): For the longest time I was using Covergirl LashBlast Waterproof Mascara, then I moved on to various ones from L'Oreal to Maybelline to some high end ones. The drugstore near me had a sale on L'Oreal mascaras so I picked up this one. I hadn't really heard reviews for it but I picked it up anyways. It's a great waterproof mascara with minimal smudging. I'm able to get my lashes full and long with lots of curl (waterproof mascara is the only thing that can curl these straight lashes). The only downside, not a huge one, is that my lashes look crunchy and hard rather than soft and fluttery.

tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner ($18 USD): Finally an eyeliner that actually doesn't smudge! For subtle definition I like to smudge underneath my top lash line very close to the base of my lashes. Read my full review here

Bottom Row

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Blossom ($7.99 CAD): Tinted lip balms are the easiest lip products to wear. You get a little colour and it hydrates at the same time. I love Burt's Bees tinted lip balms. They are inexpensive and give just enough colour. Pink Blossom is a soft pink, but surprisingly it really shows on the lips! I think it's the perfect shade of pink - not too red and not too pale. I also love Tiger Lily for a peachy nude lip. Read my full review here

Korres Cherry Picked Cherry Oil Lip Gloss ($17 USD): When I want a little glossy shine, I love wearing these glosses from Korres! For a pink nude lip, I like layering Light Purple 23 over top of Burt's Bees Pink Blossom. Read my full review here.

Becca Beach Tint: I think a flush of colour on the cheeks is the perfect perk-me-up. These lovelies don't budge and give the prettiest glow. Thanks to ebeauty.ca, I was able to add Guava, Grapefruit and Peach to my collection. Read my full review here

Benefit PosieTint ($36 CAD): I like to go between a few cheek tints and this is definitely one I reach for. Read my full review here

Revolution Organics Beauty Balm ($34 CAD): When I want a really dewy finish and when my skin is screaming for moisture I love dabbing these puppies on. For a really quick look, I use Bronzed on my eyes, cheeks and lips. I own all three in Blushed, Sunkissed, and Bronzed. Read my full review here

Summer Beauty Review: Don't Sweat It...Off With tarte's Amazonian Makeup

Is it true? Is this Makeup Junkie finally emerging from the sleepless world of motherhood?? It's mid-August and I still have lots of summer favourites to share with you! In the next few weeks I will try and bang out my summer must-haves (with Baby Z's permission). Then I can share with you all my Fall/Winter collections that I've fallen in love with (stay tuned for new Chanel reviews!). As much as I love Fall, talking about fall collections seems too soon right? Where did the summer go? Another bummer - my memory card is broken and I haven't had a chance to get a new one so no swatch photos for now (insert sad face).

Has the summer been sticky enough for you? Thank god for water-proof products that actually work! The beauty world is all over tarte's Amazonian Clay blushes because of the high colour payoff and long-lasting texture. I am in love with the Amazonian Clay products. These products couldn't have come at a better time! With the lack of sleep and feeding Baby Z every 2-3 hours, I literally have minutes to swipe on my makeup. Once it's applied it's gotta last all day because touch-ups are not an option.

tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner ($18 USD, Exclusive to QVC): Sorry to my Canadian readers, but these are exclusive to US beauties. I believe the emphasEYES aqua-gel eyeliner is similar in quality. Infused with magic ingredient, Amazonian Clay, these liners are incredibly pigmented and long-wearing. The best part? These actually last on the waterline! And not just for an hour but a good 6-8 hours. The twist-up pencil is a convenient no-sharpening liner. You can wear it close to the lash line or thick for a dramatic effect. The texture is super smooth and glides easily along the lid. Available in 3 shades: Plum, Brown, and Black.

tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream Shadow ($22.80, Exclusive to QVC): I love shadows that I can just swipe on with my finger. I have been wearing these religiously since I received them. Again, colour is highly pigmented and your lids will stay crease-free. All shades are shimmery and highlight the eye beautifully, but you can tone down the shimmer with a matte shadow. I love wearing them on their own for a sheer wash of colour or as a base for my powder shadows when I need the eyes to look heavier. The pots are small (0.1 ounce), but a little goes a long way. My go-to shades have been Beach Bronze and Slate which are pretty everyday shades and go with everything, but all are gorgeous and work with every skin tone. Available in 5 shades: Moss, Beach Bronze, Slate, Shimmering Plum, and Seashell Pink.

tarte emphaEyes Waterproof Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner W/Shadow-Liner Brush ($22 USD, not shown above): Thankfully these are available to Canadians too! Love these little pots of heaven! These are slightly bigger (0.08 ounce) than the cream shadows, but are pretty much the same product. I love the little crease brush it comes with. It allows you to pack on the colour to your desired intensity and gives you precise application. My favourite shade is Bronze (surprise, surprise), but Indigo is gorgeous too. Bronze is the only metallic shade and the rest are matte so they are very wearable for everyday. These work great as a liner but even better as a shadow for when you want something dramatic. Tip: Close the cap tightly to prevent drying out.

Have you tried these Amazonian Clay products? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Want 'em? I will do an update post with swatches!

Joy Approved: 5 Pink Blushes You Should Know

In case you missed my post on The Joy of Makeup, read about the 5 pink blushes I reach for in my kit! Click here to read the post. What are your fave must-have pink blushes?

Spring Ready: I'm The Crazy Hot Pink Lipstick Lady!

I love me a good pink lipstick. What can I say? I'm a girly-girl at heart. I own a range of pinks from soft to bold, but it's the bold pink lippies that are taking over my beauty stash. You can definitely say my lips are ready for Spring's bold lip trend!

Here are just a few of my favourite bold pinks that I switch between. They are all very similar, but the undertones vary from cool to warm and red to magenta with textures ranging from matte to creamy. I love them all!

Top to bottom:

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in PK 369 ($24 USD): I believe this shade was an LE, but a new one was released PK356. These lipsticks are super juicy on the lips and the colour stays on allll day - no joke. It has a creamy finish, but it lasts even through eating a meal. I love the cool undertones in it too. This a shade that just makes your face come alive.

Borghese B Moisture Lip Colour in Primale Pink ($24 USD): This is my first time trying anything from Borghese. I love the creamy finish and how plump it makes my lips look. The shade on me looks neon pink with warm undertones if that's possible. Looks amazing with just a bit of bronzer on the cheeks and bronze shadow.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Le Fuchsia ($30 USD): This is hands down one of my favourite lipsticks! It's shocking, luxurious, and rich - I love you long time! To read a full review click here.

Lancome L'Absolu Rouge in Fast Kisses ($35 CAD, LE Mark Fast): Another favourite, I fell in love with this lippie at first swipe. Too bad it's a LE though! For a full review click here.

Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint in Lively ($28 CAD): Tarte is one of my all-time eco-friendly lines that doesn't skimp on quality or pigmentation. If you love a matte lip, you'll want to get your hands on one of these lil' chubbies! For a full review click here.

Julie Hewett Icon of Beauty Lipstick in Scarlett ($22.50 USD): Julie Hewett is not as known in Canada, but should be! I love their line of lippies. Named after Hollywood starlet, Scarlett, this is a red-carpet worthy shade! For a full review click here.

Have you tried any of these lippies? What bold pinks are overflowing your beauty stash right now?

Makeup Junkie Loves These Eco-Friendly Brands!

Happy Earth Day and Happy Good Friday! How are you celebrating Earth Day? The last few days I've been a little obsessed with baby shopping. As many of you know, we are expecting our 2nd child this summer and we couldn't be more thrilled! Instead of buying a slew of brand new baby items, I've been reaching out to my mommy friends to see if they have any items they would like to lend or give away- reuse and recycle! My friend came up with a fabulous idea for a baby shower. Instead of people buying stuff from a registry, she suggested we do a recycling party! Genius right? And so economical and eco-friendly for everyone involved. Lets face it - babies outgrow things quickly so most items are like new anyways. We are, however, buying bigger items brand new like a stroller and car seat - those things you just can't skimp on.

If indulging in some beauty products is your way of celebrating Earth Day, indulge in my favourite eco-chic brands guilt-free! When I buy products for myself I tend to gravitate towards the green lines. After all, if you're going to spend the money why not get more bang for your buck by investing in something good for you and the environment?

1. Consonant Body Ultra Moisturizing Lip Conditioner ($12 CAD): I discovered this Canadian brand at The Beauty Board. The rep was kind enough to give me some samples to try out. I love this lip balm! My lips just drank it up, but sadly it didn't last too long. I didn't have to reapply too often throughout the day, but I did use it daily. It lasted for about a month. It's around the same price of my beloved Korres Lip Butter which lasts a lot longer and is a tad more moisturizing. Otherwise, the lip balm does the job!

2. Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Jasmine ($18 CAD): When I found out Korres came out with a tube version of the Lip Butter, I had to have it. I was out of my Guava lip balm and decided to try out the Glaze even though it is more a gloss than balm. I chose Jasmine, a soft nude pink since it is the closest to looking clear. It's a very pretty nude-pink on my lips with a slight shimmer. These glosses are super hydrating and shiny without the gookiness, but it didn't get rid of my chapped lips completely. I still have to apply a balm underneath to get my lips super soft and smooth. But as a gloss, this is one of the most hydrating glosses I own and the colour lasts a lot longer than most glosses. The squeeze tube packaging is also super convenient - no finger dipping! The buttery vanilla scent is also scrumptious but isn't too overwhelming. I definitely want to try the more vibrant shades in the line!

3. Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint in Lively ($28 CAD): While on a Sephora shopping trip with Stephanie from Blush Pretty, she gabbed about how much she loved these chubby pencils. I immediately fell in love with Lively, a deep hot pink. I decided to forgo on the purchase since I have waaay too many lip products especially pink ones! Unfortunately, I thought about it constantly and decided that my friend's wedding was a good excuse to buy it! Since I was doing makeup for her wedding, I decided a bright lip would be the easiest way to look made up quickly. The shade looks more like a raspberry pink on me, but I adore it! I received so many compliments that night. It's one of those shades that make your teeth look whiter. The texture is matte, but applies very smoothly. The pigment is vibrant, but if you're eating has average lasting power. It claims to moisturize your lips up to 6000% - I have no idea where they came up with this absurd number - but I didn't find it did that. It did dry out my lips after a few hours and I always have to wear a lip balm with it. However, it is one of the more hydrating matte lip products I've used. The pencil is also really easy to apply and shape the lips. Love this version over NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils because you don't have to sharpen (besides the eco-friendly ingredients)! Just twist the bottom!

4. Josie Maran Cream Blush in Sunset ($26 CAD): Have I mentioned before how much I adore cream blushes? They are fast and easy to use and gives you a healthy dose of glowing colour. This I did purchase on my shopping trip with Stephanie. Sunset is a really unique shade to me because I don't own anything like it. It's described as a coral, but looks more pinky-peach on me and brightens my skin. The blush applies easily onto the skin, but I do find I have to apply a few layers for a stronger pigment. The lasting power is pretty good, but I did have to apply once again close to the evening. Of course, this blush is good for your skin because it contains Josie's signature ingredient 100% Pure Argan Oil which repairs and replenishes the skin. It comes in a really sleek case that is light-weight so it's easy to travel with. Plus, the packaging is made from biodegradable corn plastic!

5. Revolution Organics Freedom Glow Beauty Balm in Blushed ($34 CAD): I've raved about Revolution Organics before and I don't mind doing it again! Another eco-friendly Canadian brand, this line offers a multi-tasking beauty balm. Love it. Blushed is a bright pink that looks lovely on your cheeks and lips. It just adds a nice pop of colour that instantly perks you up. I wouldn't necessarily wear this on the eyes, but you can if you're into pink on the eyes. The pigment is amazing and blends easily into the skin. It's pricey, but rightfully so. It contains eco-friendly ingredients that are good for you plus offers versatility. Plus, a little goes a long way because of it's long-lasting finish. It definitely rivals NARS' Multiple which is more expensive, but in terms of colour options Revolution needs to expand!

Have you tried any of these eco-chic brands? What are your favourite green lines?

Consonant Body and Revolution Organics were sent for editorial consideration and I truly love them.

Holiday 2010: All I Want For Christmas Is...Tarte Good As Gold Lipgloss Collection!

Just because my lipstick collection is starting to rival my gloss collection, doesn't mean I don't appreciate a good gloss once in a while especially if they are from Tarte. If you're a gloss junkie, this might be a case of the "one for you, one for me" policy. It's a definite must-add to your Christmas wish list!

This limited edition set comes with 15 deluxe size lip glosses in a variety of shades. I love anything mini because well, mini just looks so darn cute! Plus, it's easy to carry especially with this season's little clutch purses. When it comes to gift giving, this set gives you many options. Give the whole set to one lucky gal or divide them up among your friends personalizing the shades and packaging.

 Top Row

I love the texture and feel of Tarte lip glosses. They are never sticky or tacky. The collection also offers a range of shimmery, pearl and creamy finishes. If you're looking for full colour look elsewhere. These glosses are sheer, but with noticeable colour.
Middle Row

Don't feel you have to wear each shade on its own. Layer a shimmery shade over a creamy, flat gloss or lighten a darker shade with a paler gloss.

Bottom Row
All the shades are pretty but none are really different than what's out there already other than the fact that these glosses are all-natural. This is a great starter set for gloss junkies starting out that only have a few shades in their collection. The glosses I've been wearing a lot lately is the bright, clear pink (2nd one) in the top row and the peachy-pink (3rd one) in the middle row. But when you have 15 shades to choose from, a new shade a day is in order!

What do you think of this gloss set? Will you be adding this to your wish list?

Tarte Good As Gold Lipgloss Collection retails for $29 USD and is available in Sephora locations or online.

Product was sent for editorial consideration and I honestly love it.

Holiday 2010: All I Want For Christmas Is...Add This To Your Wish List!

Shimmer! Glimmer! Sparkling! Shine! You know the holidays are here when all the makeup collections are all blinged out. The next few weeks, Makeup Junkie will be featuring holiday goodies that should be on your wish list whether it's for someone special or yourself.

For The Ultimate Glamazon - Tarte Cosmetics The Jewelry Box ($52 USD): I. Am. In. Love. This box of makeup heaven is packaged in a luxe gold quilted box adorned with a detachable gold and black necklace that I've been wearing every chance I get! I love layering it with my gold chain link necklace - it looks fab with any party dress or wear with a plain ol' shirt to amp up your look.

After you've been dazzled by the necklace, your eyes will pop with excitement once you open up the box! The kit comes with 32 new eye shadows, 8 lip glosses, a Tarte best-seller of Park Avenue Princess Mineral Powder Bronzer full-size, full-size shimmer powder, and five deluxe long-wearing shimmery eyeliners.

I did a quick swatching of the shadows so some of the shades might not look as pigmented but they are and have good staying power. I love that it comes with a good amount of matte shadows. A lot of holiday palettes are all shimmery but I love layering shimmer and matte textures together. It looks more wearable and in photos looks more flattering. The liners are pretty and add a little fun and sparkle to your lash line. For long-wearing liners, I found they started to fade towards the end of the night.

The shimmer and bronzer are gorgeous and leave your skin looking radiant. However, on my med-dark skin I have to apply a couple of layers to really see the bronzer. I adore all the lip glosses. I was expecting them to be really sheer but these glosses pack a punch. You can wear each on their own or layer to make a custom shade.

Not only will this thrill the glamazon's in your life (or you), but it will fancy those who only wear all natural products. The price is definitely worth it from packaging to product. Go crazy and create 100 different looks this season!

For The Sophisticate - Tarte The Royal Collection ($43 USD): This is for the woman who just needs all her essentials - no fuss or muss. The Royal Collection will keep you looking polished with 16 exclusive wearable eye shadows that can bring you from day to night. The palette packaged in it's signature purple also includes deluxe sizes of Clean Slate Natural Face Primer, Lights, Camera Lashes!, MultiplEYE Lash Enhancing Primer, a Vitamin-Infused Pink Lip Gloss.

Again, the palette comes with a good mix of shimmery and matte shadows. Lately, I've been wearing the grey-mauve matte shadow with one of the light matte pinks, black liquid liner, and soft nude pink lips. All the shadows are gorgeous but this combo works for day or night and has a '60's mod feel to it. Love it.

The primer is great and makes your skin feel really smooth. I love primers and have a collection that is growing! I had always wanted to try the mascara. It promises to volumize, lengthen and curl. When I first apply it, I love it. My lashes look lifted and feathery, but the formula is kind of soft and by the end of the day my lashes start to droop. The primer definitely added fullness to my lashes especially since I've been using Latisse (will have to do a separate review for that), but my lashes would clump more when I applied any mascara over top.

I love the Tarte glosses because they don't feel sticky on the lips and they are good for you inside-out. This pink gloss has gold flecks in it and looks lovely for those days when you want a sheer shine. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the Jewelry Box but it offers great value!

Have you tried any of these must-have limited additions from Tarte? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Want 'em?

Both palettes are available at Sephora locations and Sephora on-line.

Beauty Feature: Spring Forward!

The transition from winter to spring can be a bumpy flaky ride. Got skin? Then you'll want to know these skin-loving products. Sure, there are tons of pretty makeup out there but if your skin doesn't look good then nothing will. Spring forward and look healthy and radiant!

1. SK-II Facial Treatment Cleanser ($60 USD): If you have normal to moderately dry skin then you'll love the velvety texture of this cleanser. My skin always feels hydrated after. The magic ingredient is Pitera, a combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and organic acids that work together to restore the appearance of your skin while helping the skin rejuvenate on its own. I don't mind splurging on skin care but if the price is too steep try Burt's Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream.

2. Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner ($43 CDN): I love using this after I cleanse the skin. My face always feels refreshed - great to use throughout the day when your skin needs a pick-me-up. Use this before you apply your moisturizer. It not only tones and smooths the skin, but allows your moisturizer to really soak in.

3. Rodial Glamtox Eye Light SPF 15 ($143.94 CDN): I know, the price is ridiculous! But I've fallen in love with this eye cream and I just might...I received the travel size and now I think I'll have to ration it! I rarely ever do reviews on eye creams but this one really works for me! Rodial is your all-natural approach to plastic surgery. Their magic ingredient is Pomegranate Ellagic Tanin that boosts collagen production and restores youthfulness. It really hydrates my eyes and my fine lines, dark circles, and puffiness are less noticeable. I just love the radiant finish.

4. Rodial Glamtox SPF 18 ($156.50 CDN): I like to apply my moisturizer after my eye cream so it can help lock in the moisture. It's safe enough for around the eyes. I'm really sad my travel size has run out. When the hubby and friends think you're wearing makeup when you're really not is proof enough for me that this skin cream is fabulous! It really brightens and plumps up the skin. I've fallen in love with it but we may have to put our relationship on hold. When money is no object, maybe but would you spend that much on a skin cream??

5. Rodial Glam Balm ($100 CDN): Thank god I still have quite a bit left in my travel size pot! This is a multi-purpose anti-aging plumping treatment for your face, lips, neck and hands. My lips don't have a problem with fullness, but I love using this as a finishing touch around the eyes. Also great on the cuticles and as an intensive night treatment for the eyes. Dot a bit on the high planes of the cheeks and you have an instant highlight!

6. Cover FX Brightening Foundation Primer and Photo-Aging Defense SPF 50 ($45 USD): My makeup doesn't hold up so well if I don't use a primer. Primers these days do more than keep your makeup on. All Cover FX primers have anti-aging benefits and improve problematic skin. I love the Brightening primer for those days when my skin looks tired and needs a perk-me-up. I find for drier skin it does a good job at hydrating. The texture goes on a little liquidy but smooths easily onto the skin. Your left with a luminous, radiant finish. The "blur" affect minimizes my imperfections and fine lines and best of all keeps my makeup looking good all day!

7. Korres Face Primer ($28 USD): If you have sensitive skin and have an allergy to silicone, then you will love Korres 99% natural silicone-free primer. My initial thought was that it wouldn't hold up as well as a primer with silicone but this one is awesome! I am in love with it! It contains Vitamin E so over time you'll notice an improved appearance in your skin. My skin always looks smooth and also has a brightening effect. It feels nice and light on the skin and glides on like a moisturizer. Your makeup at night will look as fresh as it did in the morning!

8. Tarte Smooth Operator SPF 20 ($36 USD): When the weather gets warmer I love to switch my foundation to a tinted moisturizer with an SPF. Some tinted moisturizers don't give enough coverage but not Tarte's version. I still get optimal coverage without a heavy feeling. This all-natural tint has micro-treated mineral pigments that help diffuse fine lines and wrinkles. My skin looks luminous without looking oily, important as the weather warms up. The line has been relaunched with a new look and darker shades! I find the new tube is less messy. I'm using Agent 14, for medium complexions with yellow undertones, but I get dark in the summer so I'll have to try Agent 16, for medium dark complexions with golden undertones.

9. Tarte Provocateur Mineral Pressed Powder SPF 8 ($30 USD): I love this mineral powder because it doesn't look like you're wearing powder. During spring and summer, skin should look fresh and not caked on with powder. It applies silky smooth and is the perfect compliment to the Smooth Operator. Your makeup is perfectly set and you still get a pretty glow. It comes packaged in a super cute in a royal purple quilted compact. I prefer using a brush but the sponge is good for quick touch-ups. The line has also added 2 new darker shades! I'm a Honey 12, for medium to dark complexions with golden undertones.

10. Korres Lip Butter in Guava ($13 CDN): Finish off healthy skin with an all-natural lip moisturizer. When I tried Korres Lip Butter in Wild Rose, I fell in love. I decided I wanted this on my lips at all times but needed a clear one. I picked up Guava and I can't get enough! Yes, you have to dip your finger in the pot but I don't mind especially when my lips feel buttery smooth. A little goes a long way and I rarely have to reapply throughout the day (but I do anyways). The scent is also nice and light. You can also wear these on the cheeks for a dewy stain, but Guava works better as a highlighter on the cheekbones. I want the entire line - 2 down 5 to go!

What products are apart of your skin care regime? Have you tried these products? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Want 'em?

Day 12: 14 Good-For-You Lippies For Valentine's Day!

Another Makeup Junkie favourite from Tarte Cosmetics for Day 12!

Tarte Cosmetics Double Dose Berry Boost & Gloss in Acai Boost ($21 USD): I became a fan of these glosses 2 years ago when Tarte first launched them. Made with only the best skinvigorating ingredients, this gloss gives you a double dose of rich colour and shine to rejuvenate your lips!

Acai Boost is my new favourite from the line. This sheer sparkling raspberry really compliments my complexion. The colour really pops and is all the makeup you really need when wearing this shade. The colour is more pigmented than your average gloss and is rich in texture. My lips stay moisturized for hours and the colour lasts through a couple glasses of wine and even dinner. Once it wears off the colour becomes a nice stain.

Day 5: 14 Good-For-You Lippies For Valentine's Day!

Day 5 features a super-emollient lip stain you'll fall in love with!

Tarte Natural Lip Stain Pencil in Enchanted (available February 2010, $24 USD/$31 CDN): The people behind Tarte know that what we put on our skin counts. The brand's popular line of all-natural products not only look pretty but promote healthy looking skin!

I've been a huge fan of Tarte's Cheek Stain and many of their lip products for a long time. I was delighted when I heard that they were coming out with a line of lip stains. For those of you that would prefer to use a stain but don't like how drying it can be then you should give Tarte's version a whirl!

It is clinically proven to increase lips' moisture by 6000%! I'm not really sure where that number came from but it is very moisturizing. The pencils are made with LipSurgence technology which quickly absorbs into the skin delivering a surge of moisture and increasing your lips' water content for a plumped appearance without the stinging. I've only used it a few times and haven't really noticed if it has increased my lips' moisture because they still chap here and there. However, my lips do look extremely smooth and feel incredibly soft! I'll have to do a follow-up review.

I received Enchanted, a rose shade, that gives your lips a natural flush of colour. It's another one of those shades that is "your lips but better". One layer will give you a kiss of rose but swipe on a few layers and the colour is more bold, perfect to wear right into the evening. These stains are seriously long-lasting even through a meal! This is definitely a versatile shade that will work for many skin tones. Besides the uber moisture-factor, it has a lovely peppermint flavour. Another great feature? No sharpener required - just twist the bottom to replenish!

Also available in: Amused (bright pink), Charmed (light pink), Joy (peach), Lust (red), Moody (deep berry)

Beauty Feature: Good For Your Skin Cosmetics

What you put on your skin counts. Every beauty brand is coming out with products that are either all natural, organic, or anti-aging. With so many cosmetics offering similar benefits how do you really know which ones work? Makeup Junkie has tested some of the most talked about good-for-your-skin products on the market. If you've been curious about these products, read first before making a pricey purchase!

1.Tarte ReCreate Anti-Aging Foundation With Wrinkle Rewind Technology SPF 15 ($37 USD)
What it is: A natural foundation with clinically proven anti-aging results.
What it does: Wrinkle Rewind Technology has clinically proven to decrease fine lines and wrinkles while increasing your skin's elasticity, firmness, tone and overall moisture. Micronized minerals brighten skin and offer sun protection.
Clinical results: Significant increase in skin elasticity, firmness and resiliency an average of 22% after 2 weeks of use and 43% after 4 weeks of use.
Significant reduction in the appearance of fine lines and facial wrinkles an average of 39% after 4 weeks of use and 67% after 6 weeks of use.
Increases skin's overall moisture by 52.82% within 15 minutes of application.
The Real Deal: While wrinkles and fine lines have not totally wreaked havoc on my skin yet, I did notice my skin looked much smoother and youthful right away. The foundation texture almost had a soft whipped feel to it and blended really nicely onto the skin. The medium to full coverage did not fade throughout the day and also did not feel heavy on the skin. I received many compliments on how good my skin looked which is always good in my books!
Boo Points: We're all for green packaging here at Makeup Junkie but I was not too impressed with the "Flo-Thru Pump". I don't know if I just received a dud, but the pump broke after only a few uses. It was annoying having to bang the bottle onto a dish to get the foundation out!

2. Smashbox HALO Hydrating Perfecting Powder and Brush Set ($59 USD)
What it is: Hydrating anti-aging powder with a science of skincare built in.
What it does: The advanced formulation of pure gold, 48 minerals, 11 amino acids and a powerful peptides deliver powerful anti-aging benefits, while the patented hydration system continuously hydrates your skin all day. Built-in shaver allows for the convenience of a pressed powder but with the radiant finish of a loose powder.
Clinical Results: After 10 minutes there is a 33% decrease in the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes.
After 6 weeks of use, there is a 67% decrease in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles overall.
The Real Deal: Definitely hydrating for my sometimes dehydrated skin! During the winter to spring transition, my skin was a flaky mess but Halo did a good job of not accentuating my dry skin. It has a light coverage but definitely buildable and it left my skin looking luminous. In terms of wrinkles, I don't have a whole lot besides fine lines. I didn't notice the lines around my eyes decrease but the powder didn't enhance them. It's a great finishing powder for under the eyes because it has a brightening quality to it. The texture is also very light. Getting the right amount with the built-in shaver took some time to get used to but it's a cool idea. It really makes you conserve more especially since it comes with the high price.
Boo Points: The high price and the brush. The travel size Kabuki brush felt prickly on my skin and there is no way to transport it. It just ends up getting dirty. The built-in shaver can get a little messy but it stays in one place for the most part.

3. per-fekt Skin Perfection Gel To Go ($17.50 .25 oz)
What it is: A multitasking all-in-one vitamin enriched, sweat-resistant and water-resistant skin perfector.
What it does: Instantly improves skin tone, reduce redness, and help minimize the appearance of enlarged pores and fine lines. Enriched with powerful antioxidants including the universal antioxidant alpha lipoic acid, and vitamins A and E to help repair, protect, and fight future environmental skin damage, this lightweight gel helps maintain hydration leaving the skin with a healthy, even glow by locking in moisture and absorbing excess skin oils.
The Real Deal: I had heard of per-fekt before but wasn't sure if it was a primer or a foundation. The gel texture is very light-weight and blends effortlessly onto the skin. It did soften the appearance of my pores and reduced red areas on my face. I have Rich, a warm tan for a healthy sun-kissed glow. It definitely enhanced my summer tan and gave the skin a beautiful radiance without looking oily. If you have close to perfect skin, then you can get away with using it as light foundation. For me, I like a little more coverage. It evened out my skin tone but I felt some blemishes needed a bit more coverage. I like using this as a base/primer and then applying a tinted moisturizer on top. Foundation glides seamlessly overtop of the gel and lasts longer. You don't need to set with powder because the gel absorbs excess oils. Shh - I went through a couple weeks of laziness and slept with it on and never broke out once! I guess it really is good for your skin!
Boo Points: The price! The travel size is a small tube and is pretty pricey. A little goes a long way but for how long? I've had it now for almost a month and have a lot left so we'll see . The regular size is $57.50 ($USD)! I guess if I use it just as a primer at least I know my skin is benefiting from it! Pretty pricey primer though don't you think?

4. Cosmedicine Honest Face Skin Tint & Treatment SPF 20 ($35 USD)
What it is: A lightweight, all-in-one face finisher and skin treatment with antioxidants and UVA/UVB, SPF 20 sunscreens. It's great for even the most sensitive skin.
What it does: Creates a natural, healthy-looking finish with no telltale lines. Delivers the benefits of essential moisture, broad-spectrum sunscreen protection, and potent antioxidants with skin-refining color.
Clinical Results: 72% reduction in dryness
28% increase in skin hydration
41% increase in skin elasticity
27% reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
The Real Deal: This is a kick-ass tinted moisturizer! This has definitely become a staple in my makeup bag especially for summer. My skin always looks its best in the summer months so I was in search of a lighter foundation. The tint feels weightless and makes your skin look flawless minus the caked on look. I find with some tinted moisturizers, the coverage is minimal. With Cosmedicine's, my skin tone is evened out and my blemishes disappear! I also found with some tinted moisturizers my skin looked too shiny. This tint delivers a fresh, dewy finish. I've never been so happy with the appearance of my skin - I think its a combo of per-fekt gel as a base and Cosmedicine tint on top. For oilier skin, Cosmedicine has an oil-control version too!
Boo Points: Nothing! What's not to love??

Spring 2009 Beauty Trend: Spring Greening

If your vanity, drawers, or containers are overflowing with old makeup then it's probably a good time to do some Spring cleaning. Instead of replacing your old products with the exact same thing, why not do some Spring greening! Feel good about saving the environment and putting only the best on your skin with these eco-friendly products!

Tarte Spring Greening Reusable Straw Palette ($38.50 USD): Tarte knows that today's woman wants more than just makeup. Spring Greening, a sustainable straw palette, contains 6 new mineral eyeshadows, three new t5-infused lip glosses, and a bamboo-handled eyeshadow brush. The tray is removable so when the makeup has finished you can pull out the tray and reuse the straw bag!

The 6 mineral shadows come in the season's hottest shades: peachy-pink, seafoam green, copper-bronze, pale pink, chartreuse, soft lilac. The shadows are incredibly soft, shimmery, and highly pigmented. The three t5-infused glosses come in a shimmery clear, pink-peach, and true pink. You'll love the non-sticky texture and sheer colour (although I do prefer more colour from a gloss). If you're expecting a full-size palette don't because the shadows and glosses are cute and pint-size perfect for traveling!

Cargo PlantLove Baked Illuminator in Fire ($28 USD): This blush, bronzer, and highlighter all in one is made of natural terracotta ingredients and baked for eight hours providing a velvety soft texture. Fire is a beautiful combination of pink, bronze, and opal. The finish is extremely shimmery so use it sparingly. I apply it on my cheekbones toward my hairline for a pretty glow. Buff it onto the skin wherever you want a radiant finish. Fire's bronzy undertones gave some warmth to my winter pale skin but I have a feeling the colour won't show up on tan skin. If you have a darker skin tone try Earth or Wind. Save this shimmer for the body if your skin is normally oily on the face. The biodegradable packaging is a plus but a bit bulky for my liking and the plastic feels kind of cheap. If the environment and nourishing ingredients are your priority then you can probably live with the packaging.

Cargo PlantLove Lip Gloss in Dahlia ($20 USD): Women ingest so much lip gloss and most of the time we don't even realize it. With PlantLove Lip Gloss you won't have to give it a thought because it is made with all natural ingredients and comes packaged in earth-friendly packaging. The texture is smooth and feels like a lip balm on your lips. If you only like a hint of colour then you'll love the sheer finish. Dahlia is an opalescent pink. I have a bit of colour on my lips so it looked more like a clear shimmery gloss on me. I much prefer to use it as a highlight over top of a deeper shade of gloss or lipstick. Cargo PlantLove Eyeliner in Midnight Blue, Dark Brown, Bronze and Black ($16 USD): Your delicate eye area will appreciate the incredibly blendable texture and long-lasting performance. Like the entire PlantLove collection, these liners are free of parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, and sythetic dyes and fragrances. The rich smooth pigment is great for layering with a smokey eye. Worn on its own, I did notice it smudged a bit throughout the day but layered under a powder the result was long-lasting and smudge-free. Midnight Blue and Bronze are my favourites and have a gorgeous metallic finish.

Alima Pure April in Paris Collection ($25 USD): Inspired by the beauty of Paris and the legendary Coco Chanel, April in Paris is absolutely stunning! These mineral shadows contain no additives, fillers or fragrances that can irritate your skin or clog your pores. The pigments actually benefit your skin providing protection from the sun and contain anti-flammatory properties. Sensitive skins will be happy that these are free of parabens, bismuth oxychloride, talc, dyes, fragrances, phthalates, or perservatives. Wear dry for a lovely wash of colour or apply wet for rich colour and shimmer. The collection includes Sacre Courer, soft rose with golden sparkle, Rue Cambon, a delightful lavender, Versailles, a soft mint green laced with golden shimmer and silver sparkle, and Le Marais, a chocolate bronze to contrast the lovely pastels. A little goes a long way! Warning: if you're clumsy these may not be for you as it does not come in a sifted container.

Mineralogie Shimmer Eyeshadow in Copper Shimmer, Espresso Shimmer and Opal Shimmer: Get gorgeous using all natural minerals free of harsh chemicals. You can buy these shadows pressed or loose. These highly pigmented powders have a beautiful shimmery finish and can be layered together for a multitude of looks. Copper Shimmer and Espresso Shimmer are great for a bronzed smokey eye and Opal Shimmer is perfect as a base or highlight. Be creative and mix these powders with a clear gloss for a custom colour or use with a moisturizer for a stunning body shimmer. You can find Mineralogie at select Bay department stores across Canada.

Mineralogie Extreme Shine Lip Gloss in Dulce: These sheer, moist glosses will give your lips a sexy shine. These glosses are never sticky. The minerals in the gloss also protect your lips from the sun, while Grape Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Vitamin E promote healing. Dulce is a soft lilac, but was a little too sheer for me. Again, it looked more clear than lilac but will probably show up on fair skinned beauties or if you don't have a lot of colour on your lips.
Mineralogie Blush in Fawn: This light reflective mineral blush softens your features and gives your skin a natural rosy glow. Fawn is a bronzed-rose, which gives fair to medium skin a bronzey glow and looks like a pretty neutral blush on medium-dark to dark skin. All Mineralogie pigments come cased with a sifter to cut down on the mess. Shake it a bit with the cap on so you can grab the pigment easily.
