More SAG Awards Red Carpet Favourites

Marion Cotillard looked stunning from her finger-waved side-swept bun to her draped one shoulder white embellished cocktail dress with floral applique detail by Elie Saab.

According to celebrity stylist, Rachel Zoe, "white is the new black". Kate Hudson knows how to rock a whole lot of back cleavage - after seeing her back I need to work out my back! She was elegant with a definite sexy edge.

I love Lea Michele on Glee! There was nothing school-girl about her gorgeous look at the SAG Awards. I thought this colour on her was absolutely fabulous and her hair and makeup was gorgeous!

Diane Krueger looked exquisite in this fab number by designer, Jason Wu. The dress fit her like a glove. I don't usually like mustard-gold shades but on her porcelain skin it totally worked. The simple but glamorous up-do, neutral face, and pop of red on the lip were the perfect compliment.

Christina Applegate's red carpet look is a far cry from her days as Kelly Bundy! I thought she looked soft and glowing, almost ethereal looking.

Who were your SAG red carpet favourites?

Beauty Feature: Fall Beauty Trends With Makeup Artist Andrea Claire

I love gabbing about beauty trends with other makeup junkies and this season's looks are definitely something to talk about. I had the awesome pleasure of interviewing one of my mentors during my early years as a makeup artist, Andrea Claire, on the latest beauty trends for Fall. Find out Andrea Claire's must-do's and must-don't this season!

Makeup Junkie: What will be the top beauty trends we'll be seeing this Fall?

Andrea Claire: The smokey eye, the matte red lip, 80s revival

MJ: What are some trends women should avoid this season (if any)?

AC: 80s revival! I am the original 'LaRoux' from her Bulletproof video with pictures to prove it. :) I lived it and loved it. I wore 5+ colour shadows on my eyes but I was 15 and immersed in Duran Duran, Ultravox, Love & Rockets etc. I love the look but if you had been there done that and bought the lime green shadow you cannot do that again! Besides, it is very much a 'must have young skin' to pull it off. Bold colour blocking with eye shadows can age you and have you looking like you are stuck in a time warp. This look is only carried off if you are an adolescent so if you are 21 and under I say rock it, over 21 opt for another trend of the season.

MJ:
What products are a must this Fall in achieving these beauty trends?

AC: I am LOVING all things Yaby these days. Yaby's eye shadow palettes have amazing pigments, blendability and variety. Lipsticks MAC Russian Red or FACEatelier's Magenta. For the smokey eye the trend is to layer a metallic - blue, violet, green or bronze, you can find these in Yaby's palettes or Covergirl's palettes in Dazzling Metallics, Firecracker or Blazing Blues.

MJ: Can you share with our Makeup Junkie readers some expert tips on achieving some of the beauty trends?

AC: Smokey Eyes - layer carbon/charcoal shadows with metallic colour. If you find shadows are difficult to blend with your dark base then layer MAC's Smolder pencil with a Lise Watier's Metallic Eye shine pencil, smudge together with a Q-Tip.

Matte Red lips
- the key to a strong lip is to apply the lip liner after the lipstick so it doesn't appear to geometric. If matte is too drying for you and you live in a cold climate then I would dot a smidge of vitamin e on top - not to add gloss but just a little moisture.

MJ:
What is your beauty mantra?

AC: It's so hard not to sound cliche here! lol! Be realistic. Be real. Stay gold Ponyboy. Beauty is not serious - beauty is a moment in your day that can convey confidence, flirtiness, calm. What I mean is, all women 'take 5' in their day by touching up here and there - before a meeting you step into the ladies and reapply lipstick, before a date you curl your lashes, apply gloss; or even before a job interview you matte down shine. Beauty is a moment in time that is forever changing. Embrace those little moments but don't be those moments just live in them. See! I sound cliche! HA! Life is short - enjoy it - have fun with it. That's what beauty and fashion is all about; well, to me anyway. A form of expression that can change day to day, season to season - enjoy the trends but remember to enjoy life too.

Makeup Junkie agrees - beauty is a moment in time that is always changing! So have fun with it - play with trends and figure out what works for you. Thank you to Andrea Claire for taking time to share with our readers her Fall beauty tips!

Day 1: Pink Product of The Day

To keep you Thinking Pink, Tarte's Vitamin Infused Lipstick in Bikram (sheer creamy pink, $22 USD) and Duo Lip Gloss in Adam and Eve (sheer baby pink/frosty white, $19 USD) is what I'm slickin' on today.

I love wearing these two lippies together. The Vitamin Infused Lipstick is amazingly moisturizing and has grape seed extracts, Vitamin A and C to nourish and rejuvenate your lips. It's the first ever lipstick that is actually good for you! The creamy pink shade looks so delicate on the lips. I love wearing this with a smoky or heavily lined eye. To give it a lovely glossy finish, Adam and Eve gives the creamy lip colour a pearly finish. It makes the colour pop more and looks so gorgeous on. It will leave your lips moist thanks to Skinvigorating ingredients such as jojoba seed oil and mineral pigments known for their soothing and softening properties. It's paraben-, philate-, and mineral-oil free. And the icing on the cake - they are interchangeable so you can mix, match and customize to your heart's content!

These lip products were used in Doucette Douvall's Spring '09 look which I wrote about here. So, you'll be sure to see these make a return for Spring!

Have you tried these lovely lippies? Love it? Hate it?

Beauty Trends NY Spring 2009: Trae from Three Custom's Trend Report

Here is Part 2 of Trae's, from Three Custom Color Specialists, beauty trend report from NY Fashion Week Spring 2009!

TRENDS
PALE & MONOCHROMATIC
THE DESIGNERS: Brian Reyes, Kai Kuhne, Malo, Marchesa, Cynthia Rowley and Barbara Tfank
THE LOOK: Skin is pale, flawless and luminous. Light color on eyes, lips and cheeks
To get THE LOOK, 3C recommends: Use Creme Concealer with a heavy hand all over the face (you could experiment with a shade slightly lighter than your natural tone for this look). Highlight the upper cheek bones, brow bones and nose with NEW! Afterglow Mood Lighting Shimmer Crème. Light Clarifier on the inner rims. Line the eyes lightly with Smoke Eye Pencil and buff out with Warm Pebble to soften. Cool Beige Lipstick or Warm Rose for a little more color.

BRONZE GODDESS / BEACHY
THE DESIGNERS: Milly, Juan Carlos Obando and Carlos Miele
THE LOOK: A look that can only be naturally achieved by some serious baking in the sun – thankfully, we have makeup!
To get THE LOOK, 3C recommends: Warm Bronzer all over the face. Bronze the cheeks, forehead and other high points with NEW! On Fire Mood Lighting Shimmer Crème. Line the eyes lightly with Dark Brown Eye Liner and buff out with a little Bronze Eye Shadow to soften. Set off the eyes with Light Clarifier Pencil on the inner rims. Twinkling Rose Lip Gloss.

BURNISHED SMOKEY EYE
THE DESIGNERS: Anna Sui, Reem Acra and Oscar de la Renta
THE LOOK: A very soft smokey eye, achieved with gold and soft browns.
To get THE LOOK, 3C recommends: Surround the eyes with a mixture of Gold Eye Shadow, Bronze Eye Shadows and Warm Brown Sugar and buff out. Light Clarifier Pencil on the inner rims. Rose Crème to Powder Blush on the cheeks and Warm Rose Lipstick.

UNIQUE STANDOUTS

BEAUTIFUL
THE LOOK: Midnight dark rimmed eyes with a russet smokiness. Bronzed skin and soft, neutral lips.
THE DESIGNER: Philip Lim
To get THE LOOK, 3C recommends: Navy Eye Liner for the inner rims and Cool Midnight Eye Shadow around the lashes, buffed out with Copper and Warm Nutmeg Eye Shadows. NEW! On Fire Mood Lighting Shimmer Cremes on the face and cheeks and Simply Beautiful Lipstick.

NOT SO MUCH...

THE LOOK: a sculpted face accented by very dark, blueish purple lips. The lip was incredibly dark, so it didn’t flatter many of the models.
THE DESIGNER: YKL
To get THE LOOK, 3C recommends: Highlight and contour the face with NEW! On Fire and Afterglow Mood Lighting Shimmer Cremes. The lips would have to be Custom Blended (or try Cool Burgundy Lipstick mixed with Black from our Special Effects Palette with Sheer Pop Lip Gloss on top!)
**a more wearable alternative was seen at Zac Posen. The sculpted face was set off by a shimmering purpleish lip, but it was much more soft, and therefore more flattering than YKL.

**Mood Lighting Shimmer Cremes will be available in mid November for Holiday

Beauty Trends NY Spring 2009: tarte For Charlotte Ronson and Doucette Duvall

tarte, one of my favourite brands, has participated for the first time in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week! Partnering with beauty.com, tarte was the key makeup for Charlotte Ronson's Spring 09 show, which took place at The Promenade on Saturday, September 6, 2008.

Beauty.com makeup artist, Tina Turnbow's, inspiration for the show was: Madonna's Lucky Star meets grunge. She was able to achieve the look with tarte products such as the toolbox: brow know-how eyebrow kit, green machine eye shadow, provocateur pressed mineral powder with SPF 8 and 24/7 lip sheer with SPF 15 in tea time.

Additionally, Tina was the lead makeup artist for Doucette Duvall's Spring 2009 show. She created tarte's health couture look using eco-friendly products like lash hugger eco-friendly natural mascara and our new straw palette--spring greening, which features a bamboo brush, mineral shadows and vitamin-infused glosses. Beauty Trends NY Spring 2009: Proenza Schouler and Monique Lhuillier

Proenza Schouler Spring 2009 Hair Report: Industrial Meets Deco
Hair Lead: Didier Malige for ghd
ghd Lead: Omar Lopez
The Look:
Jack and Lazaro rocked the runway by merging a military feel with late 70s and early 80s inspired shapes and lines, to create a collection that was equal parts tough, confident and feminine.
The ghd Way: To compliment the juxtaposed runway looks, Didier Malige for ghd led the Directive Team to create a deeply parted, eye-sweeping finger wave, artfully pulled back to one side and cascading down one shoulder.Using the ghd IV mini styler, a modern “finger wave” was created by sectioning off hair, and starting at the crown gently rocking the iron back and forth all the way to the ends. Then, ghd sea spray was worked through the model’s hair to soften the wave and add light hold. Next, the hair wasset with clips around the face to help accentuate the waves. Finally, the clips were removed, and the hair was swept back to one side and secured
using bobby pins, while the front fell loosely over one eye a la 1970s Jerry Hall. The look was finished with ghd ultimate hairspray.

Monique Lhuillier Spring 2009 Hair Report: Luxurious Tropical Island Chic
Hair Lead: Eugene Souleiman for ghd
The Look:
Dry, crisp fabrics, straw braiding techniques, basket patterns and wave prints evoke thoughts of tropical vacations entrenched in relaxation, glamour and luxury.
The ghd Way: Since this girl is all about heading from the beach to cocktails at sunset, an easy, relaxed chignon was the perfect compliment to the summer-inspired collection. First, the ghd IV styler was used to straighten the hair. Then, ghd sea spray was applied around the roots and blown out with a diffuser to create a texture-laden base. Next, the model’s hair was finger brushed away from the face, gathered into a pony and half-twisted up. Then, the hair was
twisted back around and secured into place, leaving the ends loose. To create a wind-swept look, Eugene and the Directive Team applied ghd sea spray to their hands and lightly roughed up the sides and front of the hair with their palms. Finally, a fine mist of ghd ultimate hairspray was applied to ensure that the look stayed put… The result? Summer-inspired perfection!

ghd’s revolutionary styling irons and thermal protecting hair beauty range are available at great salons across the globe and in Sephora, as well as online at www.ghdhair.com and www.sephora.com.

Beauty News: Bustle Delivers At L'Oreal Fashion Week Spring 2008

Bustle known for its sportif themed shows and preppy-sexy clothes, invited the audience to a night at the horse tracks last Tuesday. Always fun, fresh, and cheeky their spring collection did not disappoint. The venue filled in quickly as everyone eagerly took their seats. As much as I wanted to see the clothes, Bustle is also known for choosing hot male models with the perfect amount of buff and muscles. I along with probably every woman in the crowd sat on the edge of our seats, camera focused and ready. With a growing celebrity following (Nicole Ritchie, Tara Spencer-Nairn, Stacy McKenzie, and Jesse Metcalfe are huge fans) I spotted a few Canadian t.v. personalities: Jessie Cruickshank and Dan Levy, hosts of The Hills Aftershow on MTV who also strutted their stuff on the runway, the designers from PRC (I was able to get a quick snapshot of some of them) who came in support of their judge Shawn Hewson, the guys from Design Rivals and So Chic Chris Hyndman and Steven Sabados, and Monica Schnarre host of Celebrity R.S.V.P to name a few.

Bustle's spring line was a collection of sharply tailored leisure suits with a definite twist featuring a bright green horse shoe on the back pockets which added an element of surprise. The colour palette included pastels mixed with neutrals and browns in solids and pinstripes. Ties, bowties, hats, and suspenders added a bit of fun to each outfit. The suits were nicely fitted on the models showcasing their athletic frame...oh yes, back to the clothes! This season featured pieces mainly for guys and a few male-inspired outfits for the women.

Lawyers-turned-designers and power couple, Shawn Hewson and Ruth Promislow, have definitely created a niche market creating clothes for the next generation of trendy and fashion conscious sport aficianados. I left the show feeling giddy - I guess that's what guys in really nice clothes does to a woman. Now if horse jockeys could only look like the models that night...
