Makeup Junkie Holiday Gift Guide 2008: The Gift of Glimmer & Glow!

Christmas lights won't be the only thing that will be aglow this Holiday season! Radiant, healthy looking skin will never go out of style. Dazzle those festive parties with lots of glimmer and glow with these shimmery pretties!

Give your skin a luxe glow with Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Brick in Copper Diamond ($50 CAD)! This limited-edition compact comes in a gorgeous faux-leather inset and a metallic copper finish. Perfect accessory to any outfit that will surely get you noticed!

Featured in "W" Magazine (November 2008), this compact is a combination of 5 shades: candlelight, copper, gold, beige and sand. This delivers a lovely warm glow that will have you glowing in all the right places. I swirled it all together for the above photo but you can use each shade separately. Swipe on the lightest shade to highlight your eyes or swirl together and apply on the cheekbones and shoulders for a radiant finish. Tip: If you normally have sallow skin, opt for the Pink Shimmer Brick Compact to brighten your complexion. Fans of the originals will love Copper Diamond! The chic packaging alone makes this a must-have!

Get a sexy glimmer with beautyADDICTS ExpressGlimmer ($30 USD). This versatile palette can be used to highlight just about anywhere. Beauty Addicts products are designed for the woman-on-the-go who love the convenience of pre-made palettes. This creamy highlighter can be applied with your fingers, sponge, or brush.

Gals who love the dewy, youthful look will love ExpressGlimmer! This has become one of my favourite highlighters! The compact includes Glimmer - a soft focus luminizing luster for a sun-kissed, elegant sheen and Sheer - a crystal clear luminizer that hydrates and enhances glowing skin. In the above photo, the left side is the Glimmer on its own but layer it over Sheer and it becomes intensified as seen on the right side. I also find the clear luminizer keeps the Glimmer on longer, but you can definitely wear both individually. Sheer gives the skin a natural dewy finish and Glimmer bumps it up a notch with a beautiful sparkle. I like to use Glimmer in the inner corner and on lips with Sheer layered over top. The cream is easy to apply and blend and works well on the body!

Light up the room with my newest favourite, Mood Lighting Shimmer Crèmes ($20.50 each) from Three Custom Color Specialists! This fabulous palette of shimmery highlighters was co-created by makeup artist, Dina Gregg, of Bravo's "Make Me A Supermodel"! These silky highlighters are a sophisticated take on sparkle that go on light and creamy, and dry to a fine, powdery finish.

Available in 2 shades, Afterglow (on the left -pearlescent, champagne with flecks of gold and violet) and On Fire! (on the very right -bronzed shimmer with a swirl of opalescence) will highlight and contour your face! I love the subtle finish of the cremes because they can be layered or mixed together for a custom shade. Dina's tip: sculpt the cheeks with On Fire! on or below the cheek bones and Afterglow to the upper cheekbone. The silky powder finish gives a more natural finish than most highlighters which is perfect for photography or on-camera. You won't get the bounce-back from the flash like you would something more shimmery. The shadow in Champagne (middle) is gorgeous! It looks like it has flecks of pink and gold which make the eyes pop and twinkle. For use on the eyes, lips and body. Love the sleek refillable case it comes in complete with a shadow and creme brush.

They will be available separately November 19th online at www.threecustom.com and at select boutiques worldwide. Or you can purchase both Mood Lighting Cremes and makeup artist favourite, Champagne Eye Shadow, packaged in a Three Custom Specialists' Refillable trio with tips from Dina for $60 USD!

Beauty Trends NY Spring 2009: Trae from Three Custom's Trend Report

Here is Part 2 of Trae's, from Three Custom Color Specialists, beauty trend report from NY Fashion Week Spring 2009!

TRENDS
PALE & MONOCHROMATIC
THE DESIGNERS: Brian Reyes, Kai Kuhne, Malo, Marchesa, Cynthia Rowley and Barbara Tfank
THE LOOK: Skin is pale, flawless and luminous. Light color on eyes, lips and cheeks
To get THE LOOK, 3C recommends: Use Creme Concealer with a heavy hand all over the face (you could experiment with a shade slightly lighter than your natural tone for this look). Highlight the upper cheek bones, brow bones and nose with NEW! Afterglow Mood Lighting Shimmer Crème. Light Clarifier on the inner rims. Line the eyes lightly with Smoke Eye Pencil and buff out with Warm Pebble to soften. Cool Beige Lipstick or Warm Rose for a little more color.

BRONZE GODDESS / BEACHY
THE DESIGNERS: Milly, Juan Carlos Obando and Carlos Miele
THE LOOK: A look that can only be naturally achieved by some serious baking in the sun – thankfully, we have makeup!
To get THE LOOK, 3C recommends: Warm Bronzer all over the face. Bronze the cheeks, forehead and other high points with NEW! On Fire Mood Lighting Shimmer Crème. Line the eyes lightly with Dark Brown Eye Liner and buff out with a little Bronze Eye Shadow to soften. Set off the eyes with Light Clarifier Pencil on the inner rims. Twinkling Rose Lip Gloss.

BURNISHED SMOKEY EYE
THE DESIGNERS: Anna Sui, Reem Acra and Oscar de la Renta
THE LOOK: A very soft smokey eye, achieved with gold and soft browns.
To get THE LOOK, 3C recommends: Surround the eyes with a mixture of Gold Eye Shadow, Bronze Eye Shadows and Warm Brown Sugar and buff out. Light Clarifier Pencil on the inner rims. Rose Crème to Powder Blush on the cheeks and Warm Rose Lipstick.

UNIQUE STANDOUTS

BEAUTIFUL
THE LOOK: Midnight dark rimmed eyes with a russet smokiness. Bronzed skin and soft, neutral lips.
THE DESIGNER: Philip Lim
To get THE LOOK, 3C recommends: Navy Eye Liner for the inner rims and Cool Midnight Eye Shadow around the lashes, buffed out with Copper and Warm Nutmeg Eye Shadows. NEW! On Fire Mood Lighting Shimmer Cremes on the face and cheeks and Simply Beautiful Lipstick.

NOT SO MUCH...

THE LOOK: a sculpted face accented by very dark, blueish purple lips. The lip was incredibly dark, so it didn’t flatter many of the models.
THE DESIGNER: YKL
To get THE LOOK, 3C recommends: Highlight and contour the face with NEW! On Fire and Afterglow Mood Lighting Shimmer Cremes. The lips would have to be Custom Blended (or try Cool Burgundy Lipstick mixed with Black from our Special Effects Palette with Sheer Pop Lip Gloss on top!)
**a more wearable alternative was seen at Zac Posen. The sculpted face was set off by a shimmering purpleish lip, but it was much more soft, and therefore more flattering than YKL.

**Mood Lighting Shimmer Cremes will be available in mid November for Holiday

Fall Beauty Trends: Nude Goes Glam With Three Custom Color Specialists

"Barely there" makeup can be viewed as "safe" or "boring", but this season nude has never looked so glam thanks to Three Custom's newest Watercolour for Cheeks Wallflower ($20.50 USD)!

This dewy, shimmering beige is a lovely neutral that is perfect for any look. Cheeks look perfectly sculpted and highlighted. The shade gives the face a natural bronzed hue which I thought was a great alternative to powder bronzers. The texture is dewy and creamy but never sticky. The formula is long-wearing and lasts all day (especially with a light dusting of translucent powder). Compact and convenient to carry anywhere with you. Not interested in carrying tons of products with you? Well, Wallflower doubles as a lip stain and is THE perfect nude. It doesn't look chalky and has a pink undertone so your lips avoid the "dead" look. Doesn't dry out the lips and looks fabulous paired with smokey eyes. For a glossy finish, swipe a clear gloss over top.

Get the Look:

FACE: Start with a flawless canvas. Use Three Custom Color Specialists’ Crème Concealer-Foundation to erase the little imperfections. Set with Translucent powder.
EYES: Begin your smokey eye with Warm Black Eye Shadow. Focus on the outer and inner corners and buff upwards (and outwards on the outer corners) with Cool Brown Sugar Eye Shadow to soften and create a smokey gradation. Wet a Pointed Eye Liner Brush and line the bottom lashes with Warm Black Shadow. Once dry, gently buff out to soften. To create the shimmering accent that is the center point of this look, wet a Lip or Concealer Brush and apply Bronze Eye Shadow, focusing on the center of the lid. Add several coats of Black Mascara, focusing on the outer, upper lashes.
BROWS: Keep them soft and groomed. If you don’t need to fill in, use Clear Brow Gel and with
the length of your finger, flatten the hairs. If you need filling in, use the appropriate brow powder
before the Clear Brow Gel.
CHEEKS: For a sexy, yet subtle wash of color, dab Wallflower Watercolours for Cheeks with the
fingertips to the high points of the cheeks.
LIPS: Use Wallflower generously on the lips for a lustrous nude glaze.

What do you think of this look? Have you tried Wallflower? Love it? Hate it?

WARM
The Designers:

Makeup Obsession: Neon Glow of The '80's

Summer is almost over and the '80's (the most fashionable decade lol) has come and gone. But this summer season proved that our obsession of the neon glows of the '80's is still here. From neon greens to neon yellows, these glaring brights came in shoes, purses, clothes and makeup. To bring back these fun shades makeup brands like Three Custom Color Specialists created Light Brights Lipstick which came in the brightest and most wearable shades. I am a HUGE fan and you can read my review here. Then Three Custom did the next best thing - they followed up their popular Light Brights with Light Brights High Shine Gloss!

Packaged in Three Custom Color’s signature sleek tubes with a wand, Light Brights High Shine Lip Glosses are outrageously bright colors with moisturizing, sheer coverage with a hearty dose of sexy gloss - perfect for hot summer days and nights! I say, it's not just for summer but anytime you want a sheer pop of colour on the lips.

Light Brights High Shine Gloss in Area and Palladium ($18.50 USD): Area is a juicy tangerine. The glosses are much sheerer than the lipstick and definitely wearable for anytime of the day. This shade would look great with a smoky or heavily lined eyes in black. The colour is soft but adds some warmth to the lips. Palladium is a hot pink and my favourite! This colour is so gorgeous on and you can actually see it. It's much sheerer than the lipstick but the colour payoff is excellent. It's the kind of pink that makes your teeth look white. The glosses are ultra moisturizing and the shine is super sexy! I'm obsessed with these glosses and swipe it on every chance I get!

Sure, Fall is all about dark noir but I'm sure you'll be seeing a return of the '80's neon glow next Spring/Summer!

For everyday, I rarely apply a lip liner. But for shoots or going out at night I like using lip liners to bump up the lip colour and for more definition. One of my biggest beauty peeves is seeing dark liner paired with a lighter lipstick!! Eeek! Always try to match the lip liner with the lipstick or wear a neutral colour. And blend!! My favourite liners to use are from M.A.C. and Three Custom Color Specialists! What's your favourite?

And The Winner Is...

Baharak! Congratulations!
Here is why she is a Makeup Junkie!
I think what makes me a make up junkie is purely the fact that I LOVE putting make up on every single day! I wake up every morning looking forward to applying my make up. For me, it's creating art on a daily basis. It also makes the world more colourful and that much HAPPIER and exciting!!
I hardly ever wear the same type of make up every day. Every day is a chance to create something different with all the different colours there are in the make-up world!
I also think my most important make-up item is a GREAT mosturizer! Right now, I'm using MAC studio fix mosturizer, but I don't think it's my favorite and want to try something else next.
Above all, I believe OTHERS think I'm a great example of a make up junkie because I get compliments all the time about my make-up application talents and am CONSTANTLY asked to apply make up on friends and family for big events. I have applied make up for 2 brides already (were both my friends!). They were VERY happy and still thank me to this day :-)
Peace and Love,
Baharak!

I wish I could have picked all of you because everyone had such great reasons for being a makeup junkie! Thank you to everyone that has become a fan of Makeup Junkie and I hope you continue to stay fans! You guys are all awesome! And thank you for the birthday wishes!

Baharak, enjoy the wonderful glosses from Three Custom Color: Mango, Dahlia, and Simply Beautiful! You will love them as much as I do! And have fun picking out the yummy scented bath and body products from bobe (beyond ordinary bath essentials)!! I love the Frosted Sugar Cookie scent! You'll receive 2 $25 gift certificates! I'll be emailing you shortly with details! Enjoy and Happy Easter everyone!

Celebrity Beauty Style: Charlize Theron Gorgeous in Gold!

I don't think it's possible for Charlize Theron to take a bad picture. Her versatile look and acting abilities put her at the top of Hollywood's leading ladies. I thought she looked uber sexy all in gold at her Sleepwalking premiere in New York. The golden makeup palette is so glamorous and is such a hot look anytime of the year especially for summer! To recreate:

Face: I like how her skin was a semi-matte finish and had shimmer in key places. When you have such a flashy dress you want it to be the focus and not over-do it with too shimmery makeup. Use concealer like Three Custom's Creme Concealer, only where needed. Dust on a face powder like Three Custom's Mini Pressed Powder for a flawless semi-matte finish. Add a bronzer to the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin for a sunny glow. Enhance the cheeks with a peachy blush like Three Custom's Lip and Cheek Stain in Poppy.

Eyes: Give the eyes a flash of gold to the lids and inner bottom lash line with Three Custom's Eye Shadow in Gold. To make them smolder, smudge Brown Sugar to the outer crease and bottom lash line.

Lips: Warm up the lips with a peach lipstick like Three Custom's Lipstick in Warm Peach. For a little shine, dab a shimmery gloss like Three Custom's Lip Gloss Wand in Bellini to the center of the lips.
